Made-to-measure in the UK

At Woodland we design and craft your bespoke oak timber casement windows. We use independent, artisan suppliers for products such as double-glazing, ironmongery, stained glass, locks, and specialist paints. This gives our customers a unique warmth and quality that you cannot buy from a shelf.

Our factory finished casement windows can be crafted with Georgian glazing bars. This complements a traditional, period design style. With glazed as standard openers, we can also accommodate more contemporary, modern feels. These windows are suitable for conservation areas. They feature clean lines that finish with sleek glazing bars and hand forged ironmongery. An etched glass effect can provide privacy in areas such as bathrooms.

Frequently asked questions

What Is An Casement Window?

Casement windows first appeared in the UK in the 18th century. They replaced older, stone windows. As woodworking became simpler, iron gave way to timber as the preferred material for the window frames. During the Victorian era, the use of oak became popularCasement windows are highly versatile and known for their practicality. They can fit almost any height and width and are available in a variety of materials and finishes. A casement window hinge is at the side or the top and usually opens in or out. The window attaches by hinges with either a manual or automatic mechanism. This moves the window outwards, away from the home.

What Makes A Wooden Casement Window Better Than A Steel Casement Window?

Timber is a long-lasting material. Our timber oak casement windows, therefore, are a worthwhile investment. Laminated timber is also a product of strength, easy repair, and minimal movement. Compared to steel, timber is a natural insulator and gives a better aesthetic. This is the perfect material for homeowners who want windows that will last for decades.

At Woodland Joinery, we strive to look after our planet. Championing the use of sustainable timber is key for us. All our bespoke casement windows are made using timber sourced from well sustained forestry. The timber products hold the highest certification with the Forest Stewardship

Why Choose Timber Over Plastic?

Plastic or PVC-u windows as they’re better known became popular during the mid 1990’s and early 2000 due to they’re perceived low maintenance and affordability but in recent years many people are switching back to wood due to human health and environmental issues that surround these types of windows including the monetary cost and environmental cost of disposal. A recent Greenpeace report highlights many of these issues and the benefits afforded by choosing timber doors as long as the wood is environmentally sourced.

“The production and disposal of UPVC windows leads to the release of highly poisonous chemicals which threaten health. Plastic production involves no less than six of the fifteen most hazardous chemicals listed by European governments for priority elimination.

Timber is a sustainable resource. As long as the timber is sourced from properly managed forests and care is taken in the choice of preservatives, paints and stains, timber doors are by far the best environmental choice” .
